Heat Relief Regional Network begins in Peoria
Peoria cooling centers, hydration stations open end of May

The city of Peoria is once again partnering with the Maricopa Association of Governments to kick off the Heat Relief Regional Network.
Before the Peoria cooling centers and hydration stations open on Monday, May 31, the city will be collecting bottled water, sunscreen, and lip balm donations.
“For many of us, dealing with the heat is simply an annual inconvenience which makes us uncomfortable,” said Carin Imig, Peoria community assistance manager. “However, for others, the heat is a dangerous reality quickly escalated by the effects of dehydration. The Heat Relief Program is designed to help anyone caught off-guard by the heat, no matter what the reason.”
Extreme heat is the No. 1 weather-related cause of death in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and July is the deadliest month in Arizona.
The Heat Relief Regional Network is a regional partnership that creates awareness of the dangers from extreme heat, coordinates resources and offers places for individuals who need to cool off and get hydrated during the summer months. The ultimate goal of the Heat Relief Regional Network is to prevent heat-related deaths among vulnerable populations.
For those who would like to contribute to the heat relief effort, they can drop off bottled water, sunscreen and lip balm Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Peoria Community Assistance Resource Center, 8335 W. Jefferson Street.
Also, the city has set up the following cooling centers and hydration stations that will open beginning May 31.
Cooling Centers
•Peoria Community Center: 8335 W. Jefferson St., Monday–Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
•Peoria Main Library: 8463 W. Monroe St. Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday–Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.
•Sunrise Mountain Library: 21109 N. 98th Ave. Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday-Saturday from 12 to 5 p.m.
•Rio Vista Recreation Center: 8866 W. Thunderbird Rd. Monday-Friday from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Hydration Stations
•Peoria City Hall: 8401 W. Monroe St. Monday-Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
•Peoria Development and Community Services Building: 9875 N. 85th Ave. Monday-Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
