Great Hearts Academies in Arizona is hosting a hiring fair in March with hopes of landing 240 new teachers.

The outreach is part of the  Phoenix-based charter school group's effort to find new educators to fill slots at its 22 locations around the Valley, with sites in Peoria, Goodyear, Anthem, Mesa, Scottsdale and Glendale.

"Our annual career fair allows us the opportunity to meet with both local candidates and candidates from across the country that have a passion for teaching," said Elizabeth Trujillo, Great Hearts' national factulty talent coordinator.

The Arizona event will be held from 3 to 8 p.m.  Monday, March 1. A separate event for the group's efforts to find teachers for its Texas schools will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 2.

The virtual career fair will allow interested job seekers a chance to learn about the schools as well as speak with headmasters specific to their region, location and interests. Great Hearts  does not require a teaching certificate to apply for faculty positions, but it does require the special education and English language learner teachers are certified.

The hiring will help staff current schools as well as any potential new schools being developed this year and next, Ms. Trujillo said.

"As a network of academies, Great Hearts continues to grow as we expand existing schools," she said. "We also have plans for new academies in Arizona with additional growth opportunities both for in-person teaching and virtual. As a network of public nonprofit charter schools, we estimate our hire needs based on our future plans for 2021 and 2022."

The hiring also will help replace teachers that are leaving and expansion of grades at schools that recently opened, Ms. Trujillo said.
