It is that time of year again for a brisk morning swim to help promote water safety at Peoria’s annual Winter Water Safety Day and Polar Plunge.

The event is free to attend and is happening, 8-9 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 7 at Centennial Pool, 8081 W. Acoma Dr.

The pool has not been heated since early November and the temperature is estimated to be in the low 40’s.

With hot pancakes for all, those daring enough to swim across the pool will receive a free t-shirt marking their accomplishment.

The event also raises funds to provide free swim lessons children in need.
