Glendale Prep's Mizysak dominates Week 2 football fan vote

Posted

The smallest school West Valley Preps covers had by far the biggest impact in the second week of player of the week voting.

Glendale Prep senior receiver/linebacker Malachi Mizysak  nearly doubled the competition, winning going away with 1,100 of the 2,008 totals votes cast.

Mizysak starred in the Griffins' 58-57 thriller against Arete Prep on Oct. 9. He finished that game with 10 catches for 165 yards and three touchdowns, plus five tackles and a sack on defense.

A Shadow Ride player placed second for the second straight week. Junior quarterback Seth Gallardo received 583 votes.

In the Stallions' 48-21 victory home rout of Mesa Westwood that same night, Gallardo completed 17 of 26 passes for 305 yards and five touchdowns.

Willow Canyon junior receiver Daunte Williams came in third with 124 votes. During the Wildcats' 23-8 win against North Canyon, Williams caught two passes for 75 yards and a score and ran for 33 yards and another touchdown.

For the fifth straight year, player of the week honorees, including Mizysak will win more than bragging rights.

Celebrity Tux and Tails, returns as the sponsor of the player of the Week poll. The store, at 9240 W. Northern Ave., Suite 103-A in Peoria, will provide each winner a free rental redeemable any time this school year.
