Fundraisers set up to benefit Peoria officer's family

Those wishing to support the family of a Peoria police officer who died in a motorcycle crash have several opportunities to do so.
The Peoria Police Officers’ Association Charities will hold a drive-thru fundraiser from 6:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday, July 6 at Chick-fil-A, 16657 N. 83rd Ave., Peoria. Drive thru and curbside donations will be accepted. All donations received will benefit the family of Officer Jason W. Judd. Both Cash, check, and credit card donations will be accepted. Chick-fil-A is also donating a 20% of food sales to the Survival Assistance fund benefiting the Judd family.
There will be an opportunity to donate directly to the Judd family through PPOA Charities. Memorial items will be available for purchase.
Officials asks that those supporting the event remain in their vehicles and not congregate.
People can also attend a car wash fundraiser from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 7 at Mr. Shine Car Wash, 25500 N. Lake Pleasant Pkwy, Peoria. Officials ask that people do not get our of their vehicles to maintain social distancing amid COVID-19. All sales for the day will benefit Mr. Judd’s family. Donations are also accepted at the event, Desert Federal Credit Union or pleacharities.org.
Around 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, Mr. Judd was involved in an on-duty single vehicle motorcycle crash. Mr. Judd had just finished up a demonstration at Liberty High School, as part of the Peoria Police Department’s Youth Citizen Police Academy. Mr. Judd had completed the demonstration and left the area where the students were and was involved in a collision, police said.
Mr. Judd sustained significant injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he died around 11:30 a.m.
“Officer Judd was the finest of the finest," Peoria police Chief Art Miller said.
Mr. Judd leaves behind children and his wife, the latter who works for the Surprise Police Department.
“As a department, not only are we grieving the loss of a great man, we are coming together with our community to support the Judd family during this difficult time," stated David Barela, president of PPOA Charities. "We are incredibly grateful to our entire community for the outpouring of support we have received.”
