The West Valley Water Association is offering a free online workshop on landscaping management and wise water use.

The class will help demystify challenges associated with large-landscape and common area landscape management. It’s useful especially for HOA board members, property managers and interested homeowners.

The class, entitled “Navigating HOA landscaping management and wise water use,” takes place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1 online.

HOA board members must often vote on decisions for community management, upkeep, upgrades, architectural submissions, community landscaping, homeowner requests and complaints, and community rules, the Association explains in a news release. Of all these items, common area landscape maintenance and watering are typically the highest costs associated with HOAs community management and can prove challenging to the untrained board member.

Additionally, as we continue in a 20-plus year drought in the desert southwest, and increased drought and climate conditions affecting water supplies, wise water management is more important than ever.

The workshop will include insight on how to select landscape contractors, what items to consider with landscape contracts, common landscape lingo, an understanding of factors involved in water-wise landscape maintenance, how proper pruning looks, and information about warm and cool season lawns.

The ideal attendees, according to the Association, are current or prospective HOA board members, property managers and interested homeowners.

This workshop is open to the public and free, but advance registration is required.
