The ABT Concert Series presents “Elton: The Early Years” 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4 at Arizona Broadway Theatre, 7701 W. Paradise Lane.
Kenny Metcalf and The Early Years Band star in this Elton John tribute show.
The group was picked to be featured on Mark Cuban and Ryan Seacrest’s AXS network TV show “The World’s Greatest Tribute Bands.” They performed for a national audience during their live to air show at the famed Roxy in Hollywood, and have achieved acclaim for a technically accurate Vegas-style production featuring the popular music, costumes, and antics of Elton John.
From rhinestones to sequins, every detail of Elton John has been meticulously recreated by Mr. Metcalf through ionic costumes including the Los Angeles Dodgers uniform designed by Bob Mackie and glasses by Ray Winston (created for Elton himself) to complete the illusion.
Elton John, working with lyricist Bernie Taupin since 1967, has sold more than 300 million records, making him one of the world’s best-selling music artists. He has more than 50 Top 40 hits, 27 Top 10 singles, nine of which reached number one. His tribute single “Candle in the Wind 1997,” rewritten in dedication to Diana, Princess of Wales, sold more than 33 million copies worldwide and is the best-selling single in the history of the UK and US singles charts.
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
