Elks honor pair as top students in Peoria

The Sun City Elks honored two students as their Peoria Unified School District students of the month for February.
Liberty High School’s student of the month is Melanie Benoit.
Melanie has received a Liberty High School Academic Letter every year of high school and has participated in dance as an extracurricular activity.
She danced in the “Destiny Rising” performance at the NYC Joyce Theatre in 2018 and was assistant for the Dupree Dance Convention for 2019-2020. She was also a 2019 Dupree Dance National winner and placed in the top 12 for the 2020 NYC Dance Alliance National Convention.
Other interests for Melanie include piano, skiing, biking, running and playing guitar.
Sunrise Mountain High School’ student of the month is Belle Lewis.
Belle ranks in the top 5% of her class as an Advanced Placement Honors Student with a 4.0 grade point average. She serves as editor and staff reporter for the school newspaper. She is also a youth group president, Special Olympics volunteer, and Unified Sports Head Coach. She was freshman basketball team captain and currently participates in varsity track and field, golf, as well as speech and debate. Honors received are the Young Women in Excellence Community Service Award and the Mustang Heart Award.
Hobbies and interests for Belle include running, reading, playing piano, writing news articles, coaching, and playing basketball.
