Dolly Sanchez Easter celebration returns to Peoria Sports Complex
City of Peoria
The Dolly Sanchez Easter Celebration is at the Peoria Sports Complex April 19.
Posted
Hop into spring at the 49th Annual Dolly Sanchez Easter Celebration in Peoria.
The event is 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, April 19, at the Peoria Sports Complex, 16101 N. 83rd Avenue.
Come out for a day filled with exciting activities and sweet surprises.
At the heart of the event is Cottontail Lane, a whimsical walking path where kids can gather goodies for their Easter baskets including candy-filled eggs, toys, trinkets, and crafts. There will be teal egg signs at non-food tables for those with food allergies and a sensory room for anyone needing a calming break during the event. New giveaways this year include bucket hats that children can personalize to commemorate the day.
In addition to Cottontail Lane, there will be plenty of other activities including a photo booth, Bubble Maniacs show, hula hoop zone, games and inflatables, tiny tattoos and more. Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny will be on site for photo opportunities, and be sure to stop by the Peoria Public Library station to pick up a flower pot and seeds from the seed library.
A variety of specialty breakfast food trucks will be serving up tasty snacks and refreshing beverages.
The Dolly Sanchez Easter Celebration has a rich history, dating back to 1976 when long-time Peoria resident Dolly Sanchez, a member of the Peoria Community Action Program and Parks and Recreation Board, organized a free Easter egg hunt at Varney Park.
From its grass roots founding and expansive community support, the city of Peoria became an official event partner in 1983, and the event grew to include seven neighborhood parks. In 1994, the celebration found its new home at the Peoria Sports Complex. Today, the
Sanchez family continues to honor Dolly’s legacy by staying involved in the event, volunteering, and keeping her spirit alive in the Peoria community.
