Peoria mayor and city council celebrated 25 young artists from 12 schools in the Peoria Unified School District spanning kindergarten to eighth grade, who participated in the 14th exhibition of the City of Peoria’s Young Artists Program.

“We’re recognizing and celebrating the next generation of artists. Art represents a visual form of communication utilizing line, color and form to convey themes and evoke emotions. These young artists embody the important role of art within public education and represent tomorrow’s members of the creative sector,” said Arts, Culture and Library Services Director Marylou Stephens. “Through a diverse and vibrant collection of public art, lively theater, and festival offerings, Peoria is proud to foster a strong arts culture.”

The young artists program was created in 2016 as a bi-annual opportunity to engage students interested in the arts, while bringing attention to the value that art brings to a community. The latest exhibition was on display in Peoria City Hall from April 22 through May 7. Students were honored with the framing of their personal artwork, and a certificate of recognition for their creative contributions by the Peoria City Council in the Pine Room at City Hall during the May 7 meeting. PUSD Superintendent KC Somers participated in the ceremony to celebrate the talent of these young artists.

The City of Peoria is proud to offer a variety of art experiences for residents and visitors to enjoy. To learn more about upcoming arts events, visit www.peoriaaz.gov/arts.
