The Celebration of Artists exhibit opens this month at the West Valley Art Museum gallery, inside City Hall at 8401 W. Monroe St., Peoria.
The exhibition runs from Monday, March 8, through Thursday, May 13.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, and noon-6 p.m. Thursday.
A work from Sun City artist Velvet Tetrault has been juried into this year’s exhibit.
“I always loved colors. I started out making images on linoleum and printing them,” she shared in a news release. “By the time I was 19, I was enthralled with realistic science fiction art.”
She draws inspiration from artists Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo and Salvador Dali. She has also taught previously at the WHAM Art Gallery, 16560 N. Dysart Road, Surprise, and with the Palo Verde Art Club in Sun City (paloverdeartists.com).
Her work over the years has evolved from painting landscapes to mixed media and painting still life as well as portrait paining.
“However, now, and for the foreseeable future, with my 45 years of knowledge and practice behind me, I am returning to where I began; my first love: painting science fiction/fantasy realistic art,” she said. “I have already come up with the scenes I want to paint and I am now on my journey to creating them.”
