As the days grow warmer and longer, many of our beloved snowbirds are preparing to leave for cooler climates. While you may look forward to returning to your summer locales, we urge you to keep in mind that not all members of our community have the luxury of leaving for the season. For many year-round residents, summer brings challenges that go far beyond the heat.
In our area, countless individuals, widows and widowers alike, are grappling with the harsh reality of energy poverty, struggling to keep their homes cool while managing limited incomes. With soaring energy costs, many residents face the near-impossible choice of sacrificing essential needs or paying exorbitant utility bills to beat the summer heat.
At the Sun City Community Assistance Network, we are committed to supporting our neighbors who cannot escape these challenges. SCCAN’s Energy Relief Fund provides critical assistance to those struggling to maintain their energy bills and ensure comfort during sweltering months. As you prepare to leave, we invite you to consider how you can make a difference in their lives.
We kindly ask you to consider contributing to the relief fund before departing. Your donations will provide much-needed support to your friends, acquaintances and neighbors who are all working hard to make ends meet, allowing them to stay in their homes while managing the rising costs of cooling. With your generosity, we can ensure that those who remain in the area can find comfort and relief during the hot summer months.
We are also in need of specialized volunteers. Whether you’re headed to cooler climes or staying local, consider lending your expertise. We particularly need volunteers who are computer savvy to assist those who struggle with internet research. Your skills can help others access important online information and services.
SCCAN is also seeking a volunteer grant writer to help us secure the funding necessary to sustain and grow our programs.
Every contribution, no matter how small, can have a significant impact. To donate or volunteer, please visit our website, https://suncitycan.org, or call 623-933-7530.
Together, we can foster a stronger, more supportive community where everyone can thrive, regardless of their circumstances.
