Due to the recent changes in the situation surrounding COVID-19 and recommended social distancing, the city of Peoria has canceled all aquatic classes for the rest of spring.
Registration of swim and dive teams will also be postponed until further notice.
City officials said they will continue to communicate updates regarding how programs are being affected by COVID-19 and the social distancing protocols.
All Peoria city buildings were closed to the public until further notice, effective March 22.
City officials said the decision was made to take further action to protect the health and safety of Peoria residents and mitigate the effects and spread of COVID-19.
“We will do everything necessary to assure a continuation of essential services for Peoria residents, as we strive to protect and preserve public health and prevent the spread of Covid-19,” Mayor Cathy Carlat said.
The closure includes all city buildings, facilities and public counters
More recently, the city closed many park amenities.
Parks remain open, but closures include park restrooms, playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, dog parks, select sports fields and any group play areas. Ramada reservations will also be canceled through April 30
