ADHS: Peoria area ZIP codes have 36,514 COVID-19 cases, up 37% since June


Arizona Department of Health Services reported 2,495 new coronavirus cases and 49 new deaths Thursday, for a total of 1,142,122 cases and 20,770 deaths.

In the Peoria area, cases are at 36,514 compared with 35,458 this time two weeks ago, a difference of 1,056, according to Arizona Department of Health Services.

This is an increase of about 37% since the beginning of June, and 46% since the beginning of April.

Over 90% of cases were mapped to the address of the patient's residence. If the patient's address was unknown the case was mapped to the address of the provider followed by the address of the reporting facility

Embry Health offers free COVID-19 testing at Pioneer Community Park, 8755 N. 83rd Ave., and the Peoria Sports Complex, 16101 N. 83rd Ave.,
open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms such as fever and cough for most people. The vast majority of people who are diagnosed with COVID-19 recover.

But for some — especially older adults and people with existing health problems — it can cause more severe illness including pneumonia, and death.
