ADHS: Peoria area ZIP codes see slight jump in COVID cases

A total of 25,882 cases reported during pandemic

Arizona Department of Health Services reported 881 new coronavirus cases and 23 new deaths Thursday, for a total of 861,653  cases and 17,305 deaths.

In the Peoria area, cases are at 25,882 compared with 25,580 this time a week ago, a difference of 302, according to Arizona Department of Health Services.

Over 90% of cases were mapped to the address of the patient's residence. If the patient's address was unknown the case was mapped to the address of the provider followed by the address of the reporting facility.

The city is partnering with Embry Health to offer free COVID-19 testing. Anyone can be tested, whether they are displaying symptoms or not. Tests are conducted with individuals in their cars and through nasal swabs.

• Pioneer Community Park, 8755 N. 83rd Ave.: Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-9 p.m.
• Sunrise Mountain Library, 21109 N. 98th Ave.: Sunday-Saturday, 7 a.m.-9 p.m.
• Peoria Sports Complex, 16101 N. 83rd Ave.: Sunday-Saturday, 7 a.m.-11 p.m.

The coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms such as fever and cough for most people. The vast majority of people who are diagnosed with COVID-19 recover.

But for some — especially older adults and people with existing health problems — it can cause more severe illness including pneumonia, and death.
