5K race series planning Peoria stop

Arizona Sunrise Series ‘runs’ from May through August

The Arizona Sunrise Series is back, with two West Valley stops along the way.

The event, now in its eighth year, presents seven sites offering 5K races. The series gets under way at Kiwanis Park in Tempe on Saturday, May 22.

The third leg brings the series to Peoria at Rio Vista Park, 8866 W. Thunderbird Road. By the sixth leg, the series returns to the West Valley to bring competitors to Foothills Park, 5708 W. Union Hills Drive, in Glendale.

Participants get points for every event completed, with extra points being awarded based on age group and overall finish. At the end of the series the top 100 point earners, plus all participants that complete at least four of the seven series events, will be entered into the Arizona Sunrise Series prize drawing.

Along with prizes from StartLine and sponsors, three people will walk away with a $500 gift card. Overall awards will be given out at the end of the series on Aug. 14 at Riparian Preserve in Gilbert.

All events feature a 5K distance. Registration is $200 through Friday, April 30, and goes to $210 starting May 1.

The Arizona Sunrise Series serves as a fundraiser for St. Mary’s Food Bank.
