The Arizona Historical Society honored two Peoria students among the 58 statewide students who competed against thousands of students all over the world at the National History Day Virtual Contest June 14-20.

Middle school (junior division) and high school (senior division) students addressed this year’s theme, “Breaking Barriers in History,” through the creation of documentary films, exhibits, papers, performances and websites. The students either worked on their own as individuals or in groups.

Honorable Mention honors went to Saanvi Tiwary for her Senior Individual Exhibit entitled “Popping Barriers- The Pop Art Movement,” as well as to Senou Kounhou for his Senior Paper, “The Black Seminoles.”

Both students attend BASIS Peoria, 9902 W. Yearling Road, and both finished in the top 20 in the world.
