Two people have died in a Peoria traffic accident.
Peoria Police and Peoria Fire-Medical responded to an injury collision near Cactus Road and 87th Avenue, around 9:30 a.m. Feb. 12. The collision involved two vehicles: a silver 2013 Ford Focus and a white 2013 GMC Sierra truck.
Preliminary investigation shows the driver of the Ford Focus was traveling westbound on Cactus Road, attempting to turn left onto southbound 87th Avenue. The GMC Sierra was traveling eastbound on Cactus Road. The collision occurred in the middle of the intersection.
Police said the driver of the Ford Focus had life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The passenger of the Ford Focus was pronounced dead on scene. They have been identified as 86-year-old Marjorie Kussrow and 90-year-old Dale Kussrow, respectively, both from Peoria.
The driver of the GMC Sierra had minor injuries and was also taken to a local hospital.
The Peoria Police Department’s Traffic Services Unit is investigating the accident. Speed and impairment are being investigated as possible factors. The area has been closed for several hours, and police anticipate the road to reopen around 5 p.m.
