Yelin: While the Dems sparred in Nevada, Trump focused on ‘keeping America great’ at Phoenix rally

There are two political teams campaigning furiously around the country right now.

The Trump Campaign is celebrating the Great American Comeback. The Democrat presidential candidates are beating each other up over which of them is best able to put an end to it.

The contrast was on full display Wednesday night. While Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, and the other 2020 Democrats --- including billionaire candidate Michael Bloomberg, who bought his way into the latest debate --- exposed each other’s manifest failings in Las Vegas, President Donald Trump and the comeback team were in Phoenix highlighting the incredible progress this nation has made over the past three years.

Nothing the six Democrats said at their Nevada debate can take away from what this administration has accomplished. Donald Trump has never been the “silent type,” but the record he proudly touts at his rallies could easily speak for itself.

A record number of Americans --- 61 percent, including 60 percent of independents --- feel they’re better off after the first three years of the Trump administration. The simplest reason for that sentiment is that they are considerably better off.

Unemployment is at a historic low, hitting levels not seen since the late ‘60s. Here in Arizona, the 4.6 percent unemployment rate is the lowest we’ve experienced since before the Great Recession.

Arizona has added more than 300,000 new jobs since January 2017.

Household income is up. Homeownership is up. Poverty is way down.

When the president called this the “best year that you’ve ever had” and declared that “America is stronger than ever,” he wasn’t exaggerating.

America first economics has done more for blue collar American workers than any socialist revolution could ever hope to. The manufacturing renaissance and jobs boom has increased the net worth of Americans in the bottom half of wage-earners by 47 percent in three years.

Wall Street is in the midst of a historic bull market, padding the retirement savings of millions of Americans, yet the top 1 percent is gaining wealth at only about a third the rate of working Americans. Typical Arizona families are keeping nearly $2,000 more of their money thanks to President Trump’s tax cuts.

The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, President Trump’s signature piece of trade legislation, is providing worker protections and union organizing rights in Mexico that allow American workers to compete on a far more level playing field, while at the same time opening Canada’s market to American exports.

This is a huge boon for organized labor in America, and it never would have happened without Donald Trump.

Jump-starting this Blue Collar Boom isn’t the only promise President Trump has kept, though. The border wall is also being built at a rapid pace.

“It will soon be almost one new mile a day,” the president told the crowd gathered at his Keep America Great rally in the Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday.

The era of Arizona’s lawless border, besieged by caravans and waves of unaccompanied children, is rapidly drawing to a close. Arizona’s communities are becoming safer, our system of immigration is more lawful and regular, and our Border Patrol is better equipped to stop international drug cartels and human traffickers.

President Trump’s record is one that any president would be eager to tout in a press release, policy speech, or campaign commercial --- but it’s more his style to do it in front of 14,000 American patriots who have benefited from his policies firsthand.

After all, this boom isn’t about him; it’s about us. This election isn’t about the Democrats’ empty promises of a socialist utopia or their dreams of revenge against the voters who spoke loud and clear in 2016. It’s about Keeping America Great.
