A lifelong liberal Democrat supports a former Republican?
I’m Karen Russo, a political activist in Scottsdale. I’ve connected with thousands of voters: doors, calls, texts and events dedicated to electing Democrats.
I support Marlene Galán-Woods for the U.S. House of Representatives in Congressional District 1.
Why get involved in a Democratic primary? Values and leadership.
What’s happening in our country violates my core values: integrity, freedom and inclusivity. This president and administration are crashing our economy with harmful tariffs, recklessly slashing essential jobs, threatening hard-earned Social Security and flouting the rule of law. Our Representative, David Schweikert, stays silent, systematically complicit in this destructive agenda.
We deserve a Representative who will speak and act for political freedom and economic opportunity. Marlene Galán-Woods is that leader.
Marlene’s family came to the U.S. from Cuba for the promise of democracy. She raised her family here with her late husband, Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods. She has spent her life working for Arizona, as a journalist holding the powerful accountable, and as a community leader.
Marlene has always been driven by freedom, opportunity, service and fairness. Her platform aligns with shared values that the nonpartisan Center for the Future of Arizona identified that 70% of us share. Our district is home to former Republicans, like Marlene, and Independents who want common-sense solutions to today's crises.
Marlene has successfully helped elect Democrats, including Attorney General Kris Mayes and Secretary of State Adrien Fontes. Her campaign has over a thousand contributors – the majority from Arizona. She holds listening sessions and shows up at local events.
Marlene Galán-Woods is the candidate to defeat Schweikert in the general election.
To win, Marlene must prevail in the Democratic primary. Democrats, including lifelong liberals like me, must rally behind the best candidate, and we need to do it now.
