Valley Leadership accomplishes 2-year goal early, elects McGinty

Valley Leadership, an organization providing life-long leadership to “fuel long-term impact on Arizona’s most pressing issues,” has completed a two-year plan ahead of its goal.

The organization also recently elected Michelle McGinty as president of DRA Collective, a local public relations firm, to serve as the new board president. She has been involved with Valley Leadership for nearly 10 years and has served on the board since 2014.

An alumna of Valley Leadership’s Leadership Institute Class 33, Ms. McGinty led the task force to find the organization’s new CEO, Dave Brown, with a vision to elevate the direction of the organization from seeing the strategic plan completed to developing new collaborations with like-minded leaders in private, public and nonprofit sectors.

“I’m honored to be elected to serve as Valley Leadership’s board president,” said McGinty in a prepared statement.

“I’m eager to continue collaborating with Valley Leadership’s CEO Dave Brown, new board officers and the entire board and staff to set the example of leadership in our state, mobilize leaders to take action and further Arizona’s can-do-attitude to help solve our most pressing issues.”

Valley Leadership has exceeded expectations set out in the plan, according to a press release on successfully moving the legacy organization from information to impact by introducing and adopting the Principles of Doing, developing new curriculum and launching four Impact Teams, ready to go networks of leaders collaborating to tackle a “to-do” list to make immediate impact and systemic change.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for the organization,” said Dave Brown, Valley Leadership CEO, in a prepared statement.

“We are at a point where our vision is becoming a reality. The hard work of the board, staff and our committed partners has paid off. The team is excited to share our success and proof of concept with Arizona. If you are looking to get involved and make an impact, we’ve created a vehicle for leaders across the state to join us.”

In addition to announcing Ms. McGinty as board president, “an impressive bench of diverse leaders” was named board members to represent the state’s most-respected organizations and influential interests recruited, the release said.

The new board officers, whose terms run through 2021, are:

  • Joyce Medina Harper, executive director of the Dougherty Foundation, will serve as vice chair;
  • Debra Esparza, CEO of YWCA Metropolitan Phoenix, will serve as secretary;
  • Paul Komadina, senior managing director and market leader of CBRE’s Phoenix and Tucson offices, will serve as treasurer.
