5:31 p.m. June 28 update

The Scottsdale Police Department has released the name of the man wanted for multiple charges stemming from an officer-involved vehicle collision in downtown Scottsdale on June 28.

The suspect, who police say remains at large, has been identified as 34-year-old Matthew Thomas Crook. Police describe him as a white male, 6 feet, 6 inches tall, and 330 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.

Scottsdale Public Information Officer Aaron Bolin said the department is actively looking for Crook.

Bolin also referenced the attached video, which shows the traffic stop in downtown Scottsdale when Crook reversed his vehicle into the officer's motorcycle.

Scottsdale police say a suspect is on the loose after reportedly reversing into an officer’s motorcycle during a traffic stop near City Hall before stealing an ambulance.

According to Scottsdale Police Department Public Information Officer Sergeant Kevin Quon, a police officer was hit on June 28 after a motorist was stopped and then intentionally reversed into the officer’s motorcycle. The initial incident was near Indian School and Scottsdale roads.

The suspect vehicle, containing a male driver and female passenger, according to Quon, then fled the traffic stop.

“The suspects struck an uninvolved vehicle, near 75th Street and Indian School Road, and fled from this collision. Officers located the suspect vehicle and a brief pursuit ensued,” Quon said.

The vehicle then entered an apartment complex near 78th Street and Camelback Road, and both suspects fled on foot, Quon said.

“After a few minutes, we learned the suspects had stolen an ambulance from an unrelated medical incident in the area,” Quon said. “The ambulance was abandoned and recovered in the area of 79th Street and Heatherbrae.”

Police say the suspects were last seen by witnesses running into the neighborhood; the female suspect was apprehended by police a short while after.

The male suspect is outstanding and wanted for aggravated assault on an officer, theft of an emergency vehicle and other charges. He is described as a white male, heavy build, dark colored shirt with a horizontal stripe, tan pants and tattoos.

The officer sustained mine injuries; the hit and run victim was not injured, Quon said.

Police advise the public to stay out of the area as the investigation is still active.

Anyone with information about the suspect are urged to call 911.
