A record-breaking $6,000 was raised for Paradise Valley Police Department (PVPD) charities at the April Safely Shred event.
On April 26, Mike Cummiskey of Paradise Valley Wealth Management and Jimmy Phan, Community Resource Officer of the (PVPD), co-sponsored the 19th Safely Shred and Electronics Recycling event for Paradise Valley residents. Brian Ong of the PVPD stood in for Phan on the day, who was away for training.
“Although there was a slight delay in getting started, eight wonderful police volunteers were on hand with Brian, Mike and his assistant to greet and check in residents and direct them to electronics recycling and/or the two ProShred trucks standing by to shred their documents on site,” according to a press release announcing the event’s results.
Brian Ong of the PVPD reported that 252 Paradise Valley residents signed up online and others arrived without appointments. The Certificate of Destruction from ProShred Arizona shows that about 12,800 pounds of documents were shredded on-site during the four-hour event. That’s 6.4 tons of destroyed documents. By comparison, last fall’s event shredded just over 9,000 pounds.
The total amount of donations to PVPD Charities was $6,060, a new record. A little more than half was done through the online scheduler and the balance was contributed at the event. Organizers wished to thank Paradise Valley residents “for your spring cleaning and generosity in supporting PVPD charities.”
Eugene Roberts from AZSTRUT said they collected 2,251 pounds of recyclable electronics, which were saved from going to the landfill.
Mike Cummiskey, whose company underwrites Safely Shred, notes there is room for many more residents to enjoy a little cleanup this fall, when another Safely Shred event will be scheduled.
“This is a great way to combine a valuable service for residents, and 100% of their generous donations go directly to PVPD charities,” Cummiskey said.
