Royse Contemporary to host ArT PaRtY, March 23

The public is invited to an ArT PaRtY, hosted by Royse Contemporary, with art, wine, hors d’oeuvres and a chance to meet the featured artists from 6 to 9 p.m., March 23.

The latest exhibition, “An Intimate Look In,” featuring the portrait photography of Marilyn Szabo and the photorealistic oil painting of Cam DeCaussin, will be highlighted, according to a press release.

This exhibition presents artworks reflected upon the influences of Arizona, including the desert, its people, and the prevalence of mid-century architecture in the Valley.

“We are elated to showcase these talented artists with the community, highlighting their latest collections of work and artistry,” stated Curator, Nicole Royse in the release.

Cam DeCaussin is described as a “highly-skilled oil painter with a keen eye for detail,” whose “artwork has a feel of voyeurism,” the release said, adding his paintings feature some of Phoenix’s most distinct mid-century homes with people coming or going in the liminal space between.

His work has been inspired and influenced by the work of painter Edward Hopper and photographer Gregory Crewdson.  He is formally trained in the arts and received his bachelors of fine art in illustration from Grand Valley State University and masters of fine art in painting and drawing from Arizona State University.

His work has been featured in numerous group and solo exhibitions including private collections statewide, the release noted.

Meanwhile, Szabo is described as “a true creative force in Arizona culture,” who worked for over 25 years as a photographer, capturing various people locally and abroad through the lens. She received her bachelors in history from Virginia Commonwealth University with a minor in photography.

An artist/curator/historian, Szabo's published book, At Work in Arizona: the First 100 funded by Alliance Bank of Arizona featuring 168 pages includes 80 of Szabo’s photographs, culminating a 15-year endeavor.

Her work, which has been exhibited nationally and internationally, has garnered many awards and grants, and is in many public and private collections, the release added.
