Rodney was born October 1, 1931 in Kenosha, WI and passed away Jan. 23, 2020 in Sun City West, AZ surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Rodney was a resident of Sun City West, AZ.

Proceeded in death by his father, Alfred Westphal and his mother, Anna Tucholl Westphal; ten brothers; sisters; and one surviving brother, Dick Westphal. Survived by his daughter, Vickie Hill; Valerie Lanier (John Lanier); Curt Westphal; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Rod graduated from Bradford High School in Kenosha, WI in 1950. On October 25, 1950 Rod joined the 1906th AACS Squadron Hill AF Base as a Control Tower Operator. He was later deployed to Korea where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

After his time in the Air Force Rod returned home to marry his sweetheart Mary Ann Paige on Feb. 25, 1956. They moved to Utah and started a family. Rod worked as an Air Traffic Controller for Salt Lake City Air Traffic Control in Utah for 36 years.

After his retirement he and Mary moved down to Sun City West, AZ. Later divorced from Mary, he went on to travel from Utah to Wisconsin visiting family and friends, he loved working for the Oshkosh air show and loved attending airshows.

He worked many odd jobs and met many people who loved him dearly. He was a kind soul that would do anything for anyone.

Rodney specially loved all his grandchildren, he loved when they would call or come by and spend time with him.

His laughter and love of travel and love for life spread far and wide. A service will be held this summer in Kenosha, WI at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
