Rare collaboration to kick off Phoenix Chorale new season

2 masterworks coming to Paradise Valley

Posted

Phoenix Chorale's new season kicks off in October in Paradise Valley.

Arizona’s premier professional choirs will come together for a concert featuring two masterworks of the 20th-century choral repertoire – Maurice Duruflé’s “Requiem” and Frank Martin’s “Mass for double choir.” The performance will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13 at Camelback Bible Church, 3900 E. Stanford Drive.

For the first time ever, the Grammy-winning ensemble will unite with True Concord, the Grammy- and Emmy-nominated professional choir from Tucson, showcasing the talents of 48 professional singers. The performance will highlight two distinguished conductors: Phoenix Chorale's Christopher Gabbitas and True Concord's Eric Holtan.

The performance will also showcase the new Fisk organ at Camelback Bible Church, a Silberman-style pipe organ renowned for its rich tonal qualities. Dr. Jeremy Filsell, the organist and director of music at St. Thomas Church in Manhattan, will perform the instrument.

"Martin's ‘Mass for Double Choir’ is a masterpiece and a tour de force; there aren't many choirs that can perform it as well as it deserves," Holtan shared in a press release. "The combined choir of 48 professional voices from Arizona's two Grammy-honored ensembles is sure to be a very special performance."

Single tickets are $50 for adults, $44 for seniors and active military, and $20 for youth, and are available at https://phoenixchorale.org/concerts/. Season tickets options available by calling 602-253-2224.

Arizona PBS will be capturing the performance for a future TV broadcast.
