Phoenix Art Museum announces temporary hiatus

Posted

Out of “love and care” for visitors, members, volunteers, and staff, the Phoenix Art Museum, at 1625 N. Central Ave., has temporarily closed its galleries, retail space, the Lemon Art Research Library, and other physical spaces through April 6.

At this time, the museum’s restaurant, Palette, which is independently operated by Santa Barbara Catering Company, is evaluating a plan for reduced or limited hours, according to a press release.

The decision to temporarily go on hiatus is due to a responsibility to keep the community safe and help reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 to the most vulnerable, the release said

However, the establishment has noted the following:

Bring Collection to You
Although physical doors will temporarily close, the museum will commence new efforts to “open virtual doors more widely,” by significantly increasing the digital content across all available platforms to experience the museum;

Bring daily and weekly doses of art to increase access to collections in a virtual space; also introduce new ways to experience free online gallery talks, lectures, and even virtual tours of the galleries for new and meaningful ways to enjoy art.

Caring for Members
Museum Members and Circles of Support will have an additional month of membership added to their accounts automatically to compensate for the reduced access to the museum’s physical galleries during this period.

If not a member but choose to purchase a new Membership during this period to provide vital support to the Museum, we will commence your Membership start date on the first date that the Museum reopens to ensure you enjoy the full benefit of your year-long Membership.

Caring for Staff
During the hiatus of physical spaces through April 6, all employees, including part-time, front-line staff will continue to be paid despite the financial strain faced as a non-profit organization by closing the museum.

However, Museum Members, Circles of Support members and anyone committed to the arts in the community, are encouraged to consider renewing memberships if possible to enable the museum to continue providing for employees and protecting the collection during the closure.

If it becomes prudent to keep the doors closed beyond April 6, notifications will be sent, the release added.
