Paradise Valley residents partake in international debutante ball

Paradise Valley residents Cristina Jane Glascock and Katherine Maclean Getz are set to make their debut on Dec. 29 in the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in New York City as part of the 68th International Debutante Ball.

According to a press release, the International Debutante Ball was founded in 1954 and is a prestigious debutante presentation that brings together young women on distinction, including daughters of American presidents, governors, ambassadors, distinguished families and nobility and diplomats from around the world.

The ball and surrounding events provide a social context where young women and men from all over the world meet one another, have a wonderful time and form lasting friendships.

The Ball benefits The International Debutante Ball Foundation and supports the ongoing mission of the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’, Coast Guard and Airmen’s Club of New York City, which has been providing a home away from home for the men and women of our armed services for over a century, the release added.

Glascock and Getz will represent the state of Arizona when they make their bows at the ball.

Glascock is a junior at Cornell University and is fluent in Spanish, the release noted. She was recognized for her presentation on Latin American Social Issues and her project was displayed in the Cornell University Art Museum.

She has volunteered as a Zoom tutor for elementary students of the Sequoia School in Phoenix, which serves children who are homeless or living in low-income families.

The release stated that Glascock’s father is the founder of Balarasa and has spent his career in technology, construction and consulting.

He has been actively involved as a member of the board of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona. He has also been involved with Junior Achievement, Special Olympics, Phoenix Symphony, NotMyKid and the Fiesta Bowl. Her father served on the boards of the California Pan American Society, US Mexico Chamber of Commerce, Tandem Chile and All Saints Episcopal Day School.

Her mother is on the board of the Barrow Neurological Institute and a member of the American Heart Association Arizona Ball committee.

For her debut, Glascock will wear a white, silk shantung gown by Vera Wang, featuring an off-the-shoulder neckline, the press release stated.

Getz is a junior at the University of Mississippi and is pursuing a degree in integrated marketing communications. She is a member of the Delta Rho chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma and participates in that chapter’s social committee and mental health awareness committee. Getz is also an accomplished musician and recording artist, according to the release.

Her father, George Getz, is president and co-CEO of The Globe Corporation, a fourth-generation family investment company.

He is a member of the Scottsdale Charros, chairman of the board of directors of the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, serves on the executive committee of the Arizona Diamondbacks, and on the President’s Leadership Council at the University of Southern California. George Getz is also a member of the United States Senior Golf Association.

Her mother, Dyan Getz, is a Mayo Clinic certified health and nutrition coach, a member of both the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute’s Ladies of the Court and Barrow Neurological Institute Women’s Board, an advocate for animal welfare as a board member of the Arizona Humane Society and serves as a regent for the George Washington Fredericksburg Foundation.

Getz has chosen a dress by Alexia Maria for her debut. The Margaret gown in white silk faille features a strapless neckline and a mermaid skirt, with an oversized bow and floor-length sash accenting the gown’s back, according to the release.
