Orchestra to pay tribute to ‘Powerful Women’

Scottsdale Symphonic celebrates Women’s History Month

Posted

The Scottsdale Symphonic Orchestra will perform Sunday, March 23, celebrating Women’s History Month in an event themed “Powerful Women.”

According to a press release, this special concert features music composed by, and about, fascinating women.

The program includes “Roar!” by Maria Grenfell; “Soul of Remembrance” by Mary Watkins; “Dòchas” by Laura Pettigrew; and “Scheherazade, Op. 35” by Nikolai Rimski-Korsakov.

The Scottsdale Symphonic Orchestra is the resident orchestra of Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, consisting of 70 to 90 professionally trained musicians performing masterworks, new favorites written by diverse composers and challenging staples of the orchestral repertoire, the release continued. The orchestra is led by Music Director Desmond Siu, known for his expressive interpretations, his passion for sharing under-performed classics with audiences, and insightful pre-concert chats.

The concert will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts’ Virginia G. Piper Theater. A special pre-concert chat, “Behind the Baton,” will be hosted by Maestro Siu immediately prior to the concert at 3:15 p.m. and will feature the inside stories behind the music in a conversational and intimate format. This 20-minute session will include time for questions and is included in the price of each concert ticket.

Individual tickets to this concert range from $10 to $35 and can be purchased online at ScottsdaleSymphonicOrchestra.org.
