Out of His Heart Will Flow Rivers - the Paintings of Tony Winters will be displayed Feb 5-26 at the Olney Gallery at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 100 W. Roosevelt St.

The First Friday artist reception for the landscape artist is from 6 to 9 p.m., Feb. 7, according to a press release, describing Mr. Winters’ collection of oil paintings of Arizona’s rivers, canals and urban waterways.

An environmental artist, Mr. Winters is known for highlighting the dependence on the rivers that are considered a precious and threatened resource in the Arizona desert, according to a press release.

Mr. Winters paints the remote desert rivers like Sycamore Creek and the San Pedro, as well as mountain reservoirs, canals and resort swimming pools in the Valley of the Sun, the release said, describing Mr. Winters as a prize-winning classically trained contemporary artist.

He continues the landscape art tradition of the Hudson River School painters to explore and portray today’s outdoor environment, the release said.

Mr. Winters has exhibited his work nationally and has been featured in online and print publications such as Outdoor Painter and Fine Art Connoisseur.

His Arizona work is represented by gallery Casa de Artistas in Scottsdale, the release noted.

Water use is “always a hot topic in Arizona,” the release said, noting Mr. Winters’ belief in addressing highly political issues in a non-political way.

“Ultimately, I believe people feel protective love for places they know and find beautiful,” Mr. Winters said.

Free garage parking is available for Olney Gallery guests. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.
