On Nov. 2, Mike Cummiskey of Paradise Valley Wealth Management and Jimmy Phan, Community Resource Officer for the Paradise Valley Police Department (PVPD) co-sponsored another successful Safely Shred and Electronics Recycling event for Paradise Valley residents.

This Fall’s event was moved to the back lot of the Police Station to allow uninterrupted voting at Town Hall, according to a press release. Many of our police volunteers were on hand to greet and check in residents and direct them to electronics recycling and/or the two Proshred trucks standing by to shred documents on site.

Officer Jimmy Phan reported that 174 Paradise Valley residents came to the community event and shredded about 439 boxes of documents on-site. Proshred confirmed the total weight of the shredded documents was over 9,000 pounds.

The total amount of donations to PVPD Charities was $5,278, a new record for the event. About $2,800 came from online donations and another $2,478 in cash at the event, the release continued. Safely Shred has raised a little over $10,000 for PVPD Charities in 2024, all thanks to the generosity of Paradise Valley residents.

Eugene Roberts from AZSTRUT said they collected 2,527 pounds of electronics, including 23 desktop computers, 30 laptops and 35 mobile devices. He also noted that since AZSTRUT began collecting used electronics at Safely Shred in the fall of 2015, they have collected 37,063 pounds of electronics which have been saved from going to the landfill, according to the release.

Mike Cummiskey, whose company underwrites Safely Shred, noted in the release there is room for many more residents to do a little spring cleaning in 2025.

“This is a great way to combine a valuable service for residents, and 100% of their generous donations go directly to PVPD charities,” Cummiskey said.

The date for the next shredding/recycling event will likely be in April of 2025.
