‘MEXICANISMO’ exhibit to debut at Royse Contemporary

Royse Contemporary will present “MEXICANISMO,” showcasing a multi-media collection of work that includes paintings and monosilk prints in the solo exhibition of renowned artist Gennaro Garcia.

“Art sets me free and allows me to share my passion,” stated Garcia in a press release.

From 6 to 9 p.m., “MEXICANISMO” will open to the public on Thursday, April 13, coinciding with the special “Old World Versus New World” Scottsdale ArtWalk and a reception for the artist. T

he exhibition will be on display at Royse Contemporary — in the Scottsdale Arts District in the Marshall Square complex at 7077 E. Main Street, suite 6 — through May 14, according to a press release.

Garcia has fused his childhood in Mexico with his skills, using a combination of techniques, blending old and new world.

“Striving to create art in every technique, style, color, texture, always evolving within his art,” said Curator Nicole Royse in the release. “He Infuses his work with familiar imagery and subjects that are inspired by his dual identities as both Mexican and American giving us a true authentic Latino immigrant perspective.”

Garcia is a native of San Luis, Sonora, Mexico, migrating to Arizona in his early twenties. His work is featured in 10 different galleries in both the United States and Mexico and numerous private collections, including representation by Royse Contemporary in Scottsdale.

His work has been exhibited in more than 80 exhibitions in the last five years. Garcia is the recipient of several awards. He is the resident artist at Xico Inc.- Latin & Native American Arts Organization.

As a seasoned artist, advocate, and chef he combined all of his passions by bridging his love for the arts and the culinary world to venture into the restaurant design field. He has worked on many restaurants from Barrio Queen to being the co-owner of Taco Chelo in downtown Phoenix, the release noted.
