Los Sombreros opens uptown Phoenix location

Central Mexican restaurant Los Sombreros has opened a new location in uptown Phoenix and the restaurant is celebrating with a grand opening event Friday, Dec. 13 at 322 E. Camelback Road.

The 2,000-square-foot restaurant has seating for 100 guests and weaves in elements from the original Scottsdale locations, according to a press release.

The eatery will feature brick house style, veranda with hand-painted murals of San Miguel de Allende and a wood burning grill with a trendy uptown vibe, which Meredith Smyth Design Studio created.

“For those who have not experienced our food, I think they will have a whole new appreciation of what Mexican food can be,” co-owner Kurt Riske said in a prepared statement.

“While traveling to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico City and Oaxaca last month we were thrilled to see the culinary experience we provide is staying true to the traditional fare of the region and know our clientele will taste and feel the difference between the Tex-Mex style Arizonans are accustomed to.”

The grand opening will feature half-off entrees, $6 Steve-a-Rita’s, $3 draft beers and the first 50 people in line at the restaurant at 11 a.m. will receive a complimentary Margarita Club Card which grants them 30 margaritas in 30 days. For those who sign up for the restaurants E-Club, they will also have a chance to win Christmas tamales.

“Whether a date night, evening out with friends or weekend brunch, Los Sombreros provides the perfect combination of delicious food and drinks, inviting environment and friendly staff,” co-owner Adam Rivera said in a prepared statement.

The uptown Phoenix location replaced SunUp Brewing Company’s restaurant space at Third Street and Camelback Road and has been fully renovated. Catering service will be available at the uptown Phoenix location as well as the Scottsdale location.

“We have always prided ourselves on being a good neighbor and creating an atmosphere that is welcoming to the community around us and look forward to building that rapport with the Uptown and Camelback Corridor communities,” co-owner Geoff Schuman said in a prepared statement.

Los Sombreros will be open Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with weekend brunch served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
