Jean, age 83, of Sun City West, AZ died on January 28, 2021 at home with her husband at her side after a brief hospital stay at Del Webb Medical Center in SCW. She died of natural causes due to a heart condition. No funeral services will be held per Jean’s wishes and due to the current state with the Covid 19 pandemic.
Jean was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. She enjoyed all kinds of people and loved to laugh, joke and tease those she cared about. She was born with an incredible sense of humor.
Jean was born to William Beaton MacDonald and Nellie White MacDonald on June 2, 1937 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Jean was the youngest of a total of 6 children birthed by Nellie.
She was preceded in death by her father & mother; brother, James (Jim); sister, Grace; brother, Neil; and lost but found sister, Win. Her remaining brother, David lives in British Columbia, as do many cousins, nephews and nieces.
She is survived by Edward (Ted) Milton Smith, they were married on January 18, 1957 in Powell River, British Columbia; her children, Laurie Parker (Kent) of Indiana, Gary Smith (Louise) of Minnesota, and Hollie Craig of Indiana; grandchildren include: Heather Parker, James Craig, Thomas Craig and Benjamin Parker; and two great-granddaughters, Zoey and Vinaya.
Jean worked as a telephone switchboard operator prior to marriage. By 1959, she had 3 children and devoted herself to raising them.
Later in life she obtained her cosmetology license in the state of Georgia and then her real estate agent’s license in the state of Louisiana. She enjoyed selling real estate for a few years and was quite successful at it.
Jean volunteered her time during her life to many things she cared about. She lived in numerous states with her family and often found a way to help her community. She was proud to become a naturalized American Citizen in the early 1970’s along with Ted and their children.
Jean was an avid reader all her life, she always had a book on her nightstand. She was also a gifted cook and enjoyed trying different culinary dishes. Another talent was needlework; she created many beautiful items with her knitting needles, quilting, sewing and embroidery skills.
Jean and Ted also loved to travel together. They enjoyed owning an RV on multiple different occasions which they used to explore the US and Canada visiting friends and family along the way.
Jean led a good life and had a peaceful death. She was ready, even if we weren’t. She will be dearly missed and wonderfully remembered.
