The Grand Canyon Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution – Scottsdale – celebrated the sixth annual National DAR Day of Service on Oct. 11, which was the day DAR was founded 130 years ago.
The chapter wanted to perform safe, worthwhile efforts for a national project during the pandemic, according to a press release, noting that Karen Andrews, Regent of the 165 member chapter, accompanied members to thank and serve military, firefighters, and police.
The ladies including, Stephanie Greer, Nancy Brandon, Karen Andrews, Kandy Wagenbach and Gera King, alongside Cactus Wren members, helped clean and restore headstones in the Pioneer and Military Memorial Park on West Jefferson Street in Phoenix. The cemetery dates back to 1884.
Grand Canyon members including Sara McLees, Margot Carlson Delogne and Valerie Carli delivered breakfast burritos to five fire stations in Scottsdale, the release said.
Honorary State/Chapter Regent Terri Mott, Honorary State/Chapter Regent Stephanie Troth and Honorary Chapter Regent Jean Howell gathered at the Scottsdale Police Station to decorate the marker the chapter presented in 2012 under the administration of Stephanie Troth.
The marker is dedicated to K-9 service dogs and their officers, the release said, noting that the Grand Canyon Chapter DAR recognizes all military, civil servants, and first responders who guide and protect the country.
