Give-A-Thon raises more than $2 million for Phoenix Children’s Hospital

Posted

The 22nd annual Give-A-Thon for Phoenix Children’s Hospital, hosted by KTAR News 92.3 FM and 98.7 FM Arizona Sports Station and presented by Valley Hyundai Dealers and Ak-Chin Indian Community, raised $2.04 million on Aug. 15–19.

Communities across Arizona gave money to support world-class care at Phoenix Children’s. According to a press release, the KTAR & Arizona Sports Give-A-Thon is the nation’s longest and most successful radiothon of its kind.

The event included appearances from KTAR and Arizona Sports personalities, including Jim Sharpe, Jayme West, Mike Broomhead, Ron Wolfley, Luke Lapinski, Dan Bickley, Vince Marotta, Sarah Kezele, Jarrett Carlen, Larry Gaydos, Chad Benson, Dave Burns, John Gambadoro, Becky Lynn and Dan Beach.

All of the proceeds generated will directly benefit Phoenix Children’s Hope Fund, which funds essential equipment, operations, charitable care, Child Life resources, virtual care and research.

“To set a new record during these turbulent economic times showcases what amazing results can come from local, powerful, multiplatform storytelling by the most talented content team in the country combined with a generous community dedicated to caring for the future of our children,” Ryan Hatch, senior vice president and market manager of Bonneville Phoenix, said in the release. “We so grateful to our listeners and viewers, sponsors, teams partners, and of course the hundreds of volunteers for their wonderful support of the Give-A-Thon. Funds raised during Give-A-Thon make an impact on the delivery of expert, family-centered care for more than 204,319 patients each year.”

“We cannot thank KTAR, Arizona Sports Station and the local community enough for their support,” Steve Schnall, Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation senior vice president and chief development officer, said in the release. “The KTAR Give-A-Thon is an important reminder that when we put out the call, the community will step up and make sure kids get the top-notch health care they need.”

People were encouraged to become a Champion of Hope with a monthly gift of at least $20 or a one-time gift of at least $240. Those who sign up as a Champion of Hope, gift a teddy bear in their name to an existing Phoenix Children’s patient. It’s a chance to bring just a little bit of joy to a child working hard to get well.
