Fountain Hills Theater to host auditions for the musical ‘Urinetown’

Posted

Fountain Hills Theater will be hosting auditions for its upcoming summer production.

The theater welcomes auditions for the musical “Urinetown” at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, and at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 22. Call-backs (if required) take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 24.

Fountain Hills Theater is located at 11445 N. Saguaro Blvd.

Performers can sign up to audition by calling 480-837-9661, ext. 3, or by visiting fhtaz.org/auditions.

With music by Mark Hollmann, lyrics by Hollmann and Greg Kotis, and book by Kotis, “Urinetown” will be directed by Peter J. Hill, musically directed by Kathleen Berger and choreographed by Noel Irick. “Urinetown” is presented through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals, and will run July 8-24.

“In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets,” the theater shares of the plot. “The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!”

Auditioners are asked to sing 16-32 bars of a song that best shows off their voice and range, followed by a dance audition. Early video auditions – which must be submitted prior to Saturday, May 21 – may be submitted and can substitute for appearing at the Saturday or Sunday auditions.

The video should include a song showing off your voice and range. However, if chosen from a video audition, candidates will be required to appear in person at the callbacks. Video auditions should be sent to peter@fhtaz.org.

Actors should consider roles if they feel they can represent the age ranges listed.

FHT prefers that actors are fully vaccinated, and will give weight to that consideration when casting between equally qualified performers.

Visit fhtaz.org/auditions for details on parts up for auditions.
