Florence Crittenton receives a $100K tax credit matching gift

Posted

Florence Crittenton was recently awarded a generous contribution of a $100,000 donation from Gift for Empowerment.

Now through Dec. 15, donors can double their donations by contributing to Florence Crittenton of Arizona’s Foster Care and Public School Tax Credit through a dollar-for-dollar match up to $100,000, according to a press release.

Annually, the Foster Care Tax Credit supports more than 200 girls, young women and their children by providing a safe shelter, basic provisions, housing, healthcare, education, counseling and social support, the release said.

The Public School Tax Credit will benefit about 125 students at the Girls Leadership Academy of Arizona with science supplies and field trips that support the curriculum, technology upgrades, extracurricular sports, clubs and enrichment activities.

Testimonials

A former Florence Crittenton client, Megan, placed in foster care at the age of 3 and separated from two siblings said she was  in more than 40 foster homes.

"Thanks to Florence Crittenton, I learned it is okay to be me. I learned that I can care about someone without getting scared. For the first time in a while, I felt I have friends and people that care about me.”

A former student Janessa spoke of the importance of high school at the Girls Leadership Academy of Arizona and how she learned that there is no substitute for education, especially for young women "capable of overcoming their disadvantages.

My experience has taught me that education is empowerment; it is a precious commodity that no one can take from you. Education is the road to success, and in my case, the Girls Leadership Academy is the doorway,” she said in a prepared statement.

Founded in 1896, the mission of Florence Crittenton is for girls’ lives to include safety, hope and opportunity, according to the release.

The agency has helped foster the recovery of girls and young women who have endured periods of victimization, chronic neglect, homelessness, poverty, teen pregnancy, drug abuse and/or mental instability.

Evidence-based programs and services provide housing, healthcare, education, counseling, and social support to females, ages 10-to-21.

Also, Florence Crittenton holds the charter for the state’s first and only public, single-gender preparatory school, the Girls Leadership Academy of Arizona (GLAAZ), the release noted.

Tax Credit donations made to Florence Crittenton, by Dec. 15, are eligible for matching, including contributions by mail, online and by phone.
