Fifth annual vegan festival returns, Feb. 29

The PHX Vegan Food Festival returns to downtown Phoenix for its fifth anniversary season showcasing more than 100 vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants, food trucks, vendors and more.

Presented by Davisson Entertainment, vegan aficionados from the state as well as some “out of town favorites,” will be represented on Saturday, Feb. 29 at Margaret T. Hance Park, 1202 N. 3rd St.

The event is expanding from strictly daytime to an all day and night festival, according to a press release, adding that the VIP window of time is expanding from one hour to two hours.

Admission for VIP ticket holders is from 10 a.m. to noon and general admission runs from noon to 10 p.m., the release said.

In addition to vegan and vegan-friendly vendors, food trucks and restaurants, there will be packaged food and non-food products, and several no-host bars will be located throughout the site featuring vegan-friendly wine, beer and cocktails.

Other highlights include demonstrations and presentations by chefs and vegan experts, a kids’ area with activities, crafts and entertainment, and live art demonstrations and performing art presentations.

There will also be a Zen Zone featuring yoga classes, plus two stages featuring a full day of live and local music, noted the release.

In the evening, the festival site will transform into a more adult-oriented, after-dark event with energetic music, lawn games, electric light shows, LED and glow performers, and UV black light activated chalk art and face paint.

“As Phoenix’s original and longest-running vegan festival, our fifth anniversary season was the perfect timing to expand upon the event and really do something unique. Extending the festival to create an entirely new after dark vibe was a natural transition for the PHX Vegan Food Festival,” said Davisson Entertainment Founder Daniel Davisson in a prepared statement.

Restaurants, bakeries, food trucks and food and beverage artisans will sell their creations.  Product and service vendors will showcase and sell their vegan-friendly offerings, including household products, health and wellness items, clothing and accessories.

A sampling includes Freak Brothers Pizza, Simon’s Hot Dogs, Hot Bamboo, Peanut Butter Americano, Kelly’s Croutons, Giving Tree Café, Udder Delights, Positively Frosted, and OHi Food Co., noted the release.

Cooking demonstrations and presentations by chefs and industry experts include returning favorites Chef Jason Wyrick of Casa Terra and Madelyn Pryor of The Vegan Taste, said the release.

New additions include Dustin Harder of The Vegan Roadie, Elizabeth Joseph, raw and vegan chef and author, and Dr. Arpita Surkunte of the New Viva MD.

Advanced purchase general admission is $29, which includes access to the event vendors, entertainment, and demos. General admission ticket prices will increase to $35 at the door, according to the release.

Advance purchase VIP admission is $69 and includes all of the aforementioned, as well as two-hour early entry, a beverage token, a special VIP entrance, a Tito’s Vodka VIP lounge, a swag bag, and more.

Additional food items, beverages and products are available for purchase. Admission for kids 12 and under is free.
