Eighth annual Design for Dogs event to benefit homeless animals

Local architects, interior designers and home builders are showcasing doghouses as they create unique shelters for pups to auction during the Design for Dogs event on Feb. 25.

Benefitting the Arizona Animal Welfare League, according to a press release, 16 professional design and build teams were commissioned to design, build and donate a “swanky pet palace” to the Design for Dogs event to be held 5-9 p.m., at Facings of America Showroom, 16421 N. 90th St., Scottsdale.

The homes will be auctioned off and compete for “Best in Show,” the release said, noting money raised helps the Arizona Animal Welfare League put a roof over more than 4,000 homeless pets’ heads every year, funds life-saving programs, including low-vaccine clinics, rural rescue efforts, and a community vet clinic.

AAWL is the state’s oldest and largest no-kill shelter, according to the release.

In addition to walking the Facings of America showroom filled with dog houses, ticket holders receive tickets redeemable for food, wine, beer and craft cocktails provided by local vendors. The night also includes music, adoptable dogs, raffle prizes, and “puppy kisses,” and more.

Custom doghouses will be judged by a panel of notable names in the Valley including, designer Peter Deise, popular radio host “Lady La” and renowned tile designer and marketing guru for Lunada Bay Tile, Feras Irikat, added the release.

The cost for is $55 per general admission ticket or $100 for two.
