“We should consider enacting some new town codes.” I couldn’t agree more with this reader’s sentiment.
There are dozens of homes in town that have been “under construction” for years with little to no progress. I’ve found the town staff helpful and hardworking when specifically engaged on certain issues, but I feel they may be limited by the lack of codes to help them maintain a better quality of life for residents.
For example, permits are required to start a job but is there enforcement when the job stalls and a half-built site becomes an eyesore? Why not lay out performance penalties and remedies from the start? Is anyone from the town proactively checking on large job sites that haven’t progressed in months? This could help encourage responsible development and limit speculative overdevelopment.
