HonorHealth Desert Mission Food Bank is on the lookout for volunteers.

According to recent findings, the number of people in need of Desert Mission’s services are increasing rapidly, which means additional volunteers are needed to get the job done. Desert Mission accepts volunteers from all over the Valley.

Since January 2024, the number of households served by Desert Mission, 9229 N. Fourth St., Phoenix, has increased by 43%. The total number of households served in January (2,978) was surpassed in the first 16 days of July. Between January and June of 2023, more than 860,000 pounds of food was distributed at Desert Mission, and between January and June of 2024, that number jumped to more than 1.1 million pounds.

In 2023, one to two volunteer groups per week were sufficient to carry out Desert Mission Food Bank’s operations, according to the press release. In 2024, groups are now needed Monday through Friday.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age to participate. Volunteers will process, check, sort and bag food for those in need. Non-food items such as pet food, clothing, etc. will be sorted and shared with other nonprofits across the Valley.

Potential volunteers can get more information and sign up at desertmission.com/volunteer.
