Councilwoman Pace nominated 2020 vice mayor

Posted

On Jan. 9, the Paradise Valley Town Council unanimously named Councilwoman Julie Pace vice mayor for calendar year 2020.

Former Vice Mayor Scott Moore nominated Ms. Pace for the role, after reflecting on his year as second-in-command with a prepared statement.

“Being appointed vice mayor has been a great honor and privilege,” Mr. Moore said, thanking his colleagues and town staff.

“I was selected unanimously by my peers and I thank you all of you for that support and confidence. I hope over this past year I’ve served you well.”

Mr. Moore said any of his colleagues would serve well in the role, but only one approached him to ask for the opportunity to serve as vice mayor.

“It is with my pleasure that I nominate Councilmember Pace as our next vice mayor; I am sure she would be serving us well,” Mr. Moore said.

After unanimous support, the councilmembers expressed their support and gratitude to both Mr. Moore and Ms. Pace.

“I’m very honored, I hope I can do half as well as you have this past year --- it’s been so fabulous to watch --- you continue to lead. Your depth in planning has been so vital to the town, to all of us,” Ms. Pace said.

The vice mayor position also serves as council liaison to the Planning Commission.

Ms. Pace said she is excited to learn the ropes as vice mayor, and wants the council to continue working as a great team.

“We are a great team, and honestly, it’s been a pleasure to work with all of you. Every time we all bring different things to this group --- I think we’re a very effective board of directors,” Ms. Pace said.

“I will try to do my very best --- I’d like comments and feedback, I want us to work as a team and everyone to feel included. I will try to follow the mayor and Scott Moore’s great lead. I just thank you and I’m honored and I appreciate everything.”
