“Condition of Return,” a new Arizona-made independent movie, will screen at the 2023 Phoenix Film Festival beginning Saturday, March 25.

Produced by Paradise Valley residents Tommy Stovall and Marc Sterling and directed by Stovall, the film stars AnnaLynne McCord (Nip/Tuck, 90210), Dean Cain (Lois & Clark), Natasha Henstridge (Species) and James Russo (Django Unchained), according to a press release.

McCord won Outstanding Actress at the recent Sedona International Film Festival where the film made its world premiere.

The movie was filmed on location in and around Phoenix last spring with a local crew and mostly local cast, including over 350 extras. Production took place in 19 days among 21 locations in Phoenix, Glendale, Scottsdale, Gilbert, Mesa and Camp Verde.

“Condition of Return” is a psychological thriller and character-driven film that tells the story of a religious woman’s journey to the dark side. It answers the question, “what if, after you sold your soul, you decided you wanted it back?” At its core, it’s a story about good versus evil, the press release stated.

In the film, Eve Sullivan (McCord) is arrested for committing a heinous crime. Shackled in a police station break room, she is questioned by psychoanalyst and atheist Dr. Donald Thomas (Cain), who is tasked with determining her fitness to stand trial. In a contentious interview, Dr. Thomas persuades Eve to recount her troubling past as she slowly turns the tables, coaxing him into revealing secrets of his own and showing him they may be more alike than he thinks.

Screenings will take place at the Harkins Scottsdale 101 at 7000 E. Mayo Blvd. in Phoenix on Saturday, March 25 at 3:55 p.m., Wednesday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. and Friday, March 31 at 11:30 a.m.
