I know that election coverage is rightfully the focus of elected officials in Congress right now, but I want to take this opportunity to remind them that whether they win or lose in November, there are still pieces of legislation that require attention before the end of the 2024 Congress.
One such piece that I truly hope they will work to get passed is the Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Screening Coverage Act. This legislation would allow Medicare to cover the costs of some of these groundbreaking cancer screening tests that can be done through a simple blood draw. Right now, Medicare covers just a few cancer screenings for conditions like breast, lung and colon cancer. It's time to look forward and fight the cancers that may not be as prevalent, but are just as deadly if not caught early.
This coverage will allow seniors to take a proactive approach to their health, and enable elected officials to deliver on their election-year promises to protect seniors.
I'm writing my representative, David Schweikert, on this issue, as well as our Senators Mark Kelly and Kyrsten Sinema and sincerely hope other readers will do the same.
