Bivens: Support for Thomasson’s reelection

Posted

Four years ago my wife Trish Refo and I met Anna Thomasson as a candidate for Paradise Valley Town Council. We were impressed. Anna is a bright, thoughtful woman dedicated to the best interests of our town.

Not surprisingly Anna won a council seat. Now, having watched Anna’s excellent service as a council member and now vice mayor, we wholeheartedly support Anna Thomasson’s reelection this Aug. 2. We are lucky to have person of Anna’s caliber serving in local government.

Anna Thomasson’s commitment to Paradise Valley is easy to laud. As the pandemic began in 2020, I attended Paradise Valley Planning Commission meetings as the capital campaign chair for St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, when our church sought approval for building and landscape renovations, to include replacing the parking lot.

Council member Thomasson zoomed into every meeting to understand the details of the project and to offer support to the Planning Commissioners and to town residents who attend St. Barnabas. Not only did Anna Thomasson follow all the details, but she spent a Saturday morning driving the town measuring the width of other church parking spaces for reference!

Not only have I watched Anna’s yeoman service on the Town Council, I have observed her work in other capacities. Ms. Thomasson and I both serve as public members on the Arizona Judicial Council, which is the highest advisory group to the Arizona Supreme Court. Anna is a solid contributor to the Judicial Council. She comes prepared, asks insightful questions, and takes her role of representing the public very seriously.

Additionally, in 2021 the Supreme Court appointed Anna to additional duties on the Alternative Business Structure review board, which scrutinizes non-lawyers who seek to own all or part of a law firm in Arizona in compliance with the Supreme Court’s innovative new rules and regulations.

Many courts around the country are studying Arizona’s judicial innovations.

Anna Thomasson’s perspectives as a business leader are highly valued on this important review board.

Finally, as a policy-making councilmember and now vice mayor, Anna consistently works to preserve Paradise Valley values in maintaining a very safe, low-density, residential community which celebrates open space and preserves the desert environment.

Please join me in supporting Vice Mayor Anna Thomasson for reelection to Paradise Valley Town Council. We need more leaders like Anna in local government.
