‘Art in Action’ virtual event raises $52,000

On April 6, Arizona Gives Day, Free Arts hosted a free “Art in Action” event online.

The event showcased the intention and care behind the music and visual arts programs at Free Arts. Teaching artist Frank Thompson energetically led the drumming session while teaching artist Linda Pullinsi guided 75 families through the process of creating a mandala.

“It was an evening full of creativity and connection giving our supporters a glimpse into the impact of Free Arts, live and in action,” said Alicia Sutton Campbell, executive director of Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona.

“We’re so thankful for the community’s support and commitment to our programs. It’s been a challenging year for so many and we’re so pleased we could continue providing unique programming to children suffering from the trauma of abuse, neglect or homelessness and foster care children during the pandemic.”

Lisa Ludolph, a Free Arts Board member chaired the event, media personality Catherine Anaya was the emcee, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, and Phoenix Councilperson Laura Pastor also participated.

Approximately $52,000 was raised by this event and it will directly impact the Free Arts community by providing support to programs that work to transform children’s trauma into resilience through the arts, according to a press release.
