The Phoenix Theatre Company has launched “Be the Match. Ignite the Arts,” an initiative powered by a $3 million matching gift from two donors.

Every dollar donated throughout the campaign will be matched dollar for dollar to bring the theater closer to completing the new Dr. Stacie J. and Richard J Stephenson Theatre. Phoenix Theatre, founded in 1920 as Phoenix Little Theatre, is the oldest arts institution in Arizona and one of the oldest continuously operating arts organizations in the country.

The new space will feature:

  • 500 seats
  • An orchestra pit below apron and house level
  • Advanced lighting and audio systems
  • Stage automation for scene changes
  • Expanded backstage accommodations
  • ADA-compliant features

“A great city is defined by its creativity, its culture, and its sense of community,” Vincent VanVleet, The Phoenix Theatre Company executive director, shared in a press release.
