Posted

Richard, 76, passed away at his home on December 11, 2020 from COPD. He had been on oxygen since July 2019 and under Hospice of the Valley care since June 2020.
Rick was born December 17, 1943 in Seattle, WA. He began his employment with the Renton Police Department for 28 years. He excelled through ranks and retired as a Renton Police Commander in July 1996.
In September 1980, he met his future wife Pat on a blind date. They married June 26, 1982 and made their home in WA, were snowbirds and are now residents in SCW. They traveled extensively in their RV throughout the United States after their retirement and enjoyed many cruises together.
Rick was a member of the Eagles, an active member of St. Joseph’s Church, Chehalis, WA and the Catholic Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Sun City West. He was continually complimented for his lector readings during Mass because of his deep voice and he was told many times he should have been a radio announcer. His love was elk hunting for 51 years and packing horses and mules into the wilderness in Washington, Idaho, and Montana. He loved fishing and golfed five days a week with his friends, and sometimes with his wife!!
Rick is survived by his wife, Pat; children: Rick E. Stoddard (Angela), Marysville, WA, daughter Barbara Stoddard, San Antonio, TX; two stepsons, Gregg (Maria) Peterson, Federal Way, WA and Doug (Charla) Peterson, Woodburn, OR; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A Celebration of Life will be held in 2021 in Sun City West.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rick’s memory to HOSPICE of the Valley (www.hov.org. or Paralyzed Veterans of America (www.pva.org./).
