Waymo, the self-driving car company, plans to build a factory in Mesa that will be the “epicenter” of the company’s growth plans.
Waymo announced Monday on its blog that it will partner with Magna, a Canadian auto parts supplier, on the project.
“The Waymo Driver integration plant in Mesa is the epicenter of our future growth plans,” Ryan McNamara, vice president of operations of Waymo, said.
The plant will build thousands of Jaguar I-PACEs equipped with fully autonomous technology, company officials said.
The factory will be 239,000 square feet and create hundreds of jobs, according to Waymo. When the facility is operating at full capacity, it will be capable of building tens of thousands of fully autonomous Waymo vehicles per year, officials said.
